Plea for Prayers
Many years ago my sister and her husband started on the long journey to adopt a child. They researched countries, adoption agencies, filled out paperwork, were interviewed by foreign and domestic governments, session with a psychologist and spoke with other adoptee families. They entered this journey with their eyes wide open. They knew the process never guaranteed them a child and at any moment the birth mother could change her mind.
They felt the sting of working with a foreign adoption agency only to find out later their country no longer sent children to the United States. Discovered other countries' children were banned by our government for fear of corruption and children illegally given up for adoption. My sister and brother-in-law heard the stories of corrupt foreign government officials who demanded cash at the final stages of adoption. This past summer my sister returned from vacation and was delayed by US immigration because their system said she was approved to bring home a child. My sister had to quietly tell the INS Agent she could not bring home her son.
A small taste of their emotion strains were the extreme high of seeing their son for the first time. To the low of being told their paperwork was lost or the adoption rules had changed - again. For years they dealt with numerous delays for no apparent reason to another unplanned adoption expense. The two future parents had dealt with more emotional, physical and financial strain than another other couple I know.
Good news came their way this week. They were told to visit their son's home country for the second to final leg of their journey. This was the news everyone wanted to hear. If everything goes as planned, they will travel back a second time before Easter to bring him home.
I kindly ask you to pray for my sister and her husband as they make their journey abroad. The governments accept and process all their paperwork promptly.
I also request you pray for Pádraig as he begins his new life in the United States.
Finally, please pray for Pádraig's birth mother. I can not begin to imagine the pain of voluntarily giving up your child.
