First Farm Tour
On May 18th Donna and Paul Jeschke were kind
enough to open their home and farm to the latest invasion, the 2013 Illinois Field Moms.
Did you know there two types of corn? The one we
chomp on is known as sweet corn which is only a small portion of what is planted. The larger crop of corn
is actually field corn. Field corn
can be found in corn flakes, corn meal, feed for animals and ethanol. Just like tomatoes, there are
several varieties based on the needs of the farmer. Some seeds are better in
sandy soil while others are better suited for different moisture environments. What is universal is most of the field corn in Illinois is shipped overseas.
This fall we will visit a different farm during crop harvesting. If the visit is anything like the Jeschke Farm we are in for a treat. Stay
tuned for that summary. In the
meantime, check out Ginny Marie’s view on this farm tour at: www.lemondroppie.com. There is picture of her and a cutie farmer.
I just love that picture of you in the tractor wheel! So fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to my next farm visit. Thanks for the shout out to my blog! :)
I can not wait to our July farm visit also. Sorry we will miss the canning one this month. Thanks for taking the above picture and passing it along!
DeleteI loved seeing you take this photo! It's amazing that the wheels are that huge and still don't sink into the soil!
ReplyDeleteI was too was shocked on how big the tractor was. Scary. Hate to think if you were out in the fields and not looking what damage it could do to a person.
