Wrigley Field - Mini Sized

Coming back from Galena, we stumbled upon a little slice of Chicago - a mini Wrigley Field. For all you non-native Chicagoans, Wrigley Field is the historic home for the Chicago Cubs.  Visiting Wrigley Field can be a challenge.  If the ticket prices do not stop you, then the traffic, crowds and pubic intoxication will send you screaming for home.

A kid friendly alternative is Little Cub Field in Freeport, IL

The field is a near exact replica of Wrigley. Interesting facts include:
  • Grass seed and dirt donated by Cubs organization.
  • Working replica scoreboard - complete with functioning clock.
  • Outfield includes brick covered ivy and green doors. Ivy grown from Wrigley cuttings.
  • Ivy planted by the daughter of grounds keeper who planted the original ivy.
  • Four flag poles for the Cubbie greats: Santos, Maddox, Banks, Williams and Sandberg
  • A penny is hidden inside the mortar of left field for good luck.  Rumor has it Wrigley has a hidden penny also.
  • All goats are welcome.
  • No bleacher bums but field welcomes all kids.
  • You can easily run the bases without getting winded.

Where am I again?

Best part of Little Cubs Field, is the price....free. If you are near Freeport, IL it is worth the stop.

Have you been here?  Have you been to Wrigley Field lately?

Sharon, The Mayor of Crazyville
