Temptations in All Forms of Life

If we are honest with each other, we would agree temptation effects us every day. The opportunities for temptations are endless. To label a few temptations:
  • Reward - I ran a personal best, hand over the cookies.
  • Success - Just finished that boring report; bring on the extra glass of wine.
  • View - Oh that looks so good.  We can afford that item.
  • Comparison - Everyone else has a new one.  Why not me?
The list is endless.  The key is how we act when temptation strikes.  Do we bend our mind to what looks/smells/sounds good right now? Instead, do we take a deep breath and turn away from the temptation?  What makes us fall or rise above the temptation?  The answer lies in the fact each temptation is personalized to our unique wills.  I could easily walk away from a cigarette but not a good chocolate bar. To compound temptation's grasp is the proven fact forbidden fruit always seems more appealing.

Think back to your last visit at the coffee shop. Your intention was a quick cup of Joe. The pastries in the case look extra fresh. The chocolate nuts, granola bar and banana at the register are the perfect pairings with your coffee.  Still only have a cup of coffee?  Did not think so.  Temptation is very strong, especially with food.  Every corporation knows this and organizes their store to throw temptation in your path.  Feel defeated against temptation? I know the feeling.

My will falls to the temptation of chocolate and homemade baked goods. I can easily walk though a bakery and not desire anything.  Put me in the kitchen whipping up a batch of cookies and my will power is shot before the cookies make it to the oven.

I do not have the answer to easily manage temptation.  If I did, the diet industry would be knocking on my door offering big bucks.  If you do have the solution, tell me.  I would love to say no to the chocolate chip cookies in my freezer.

What is your favorite temptation?  How is your temptation managed?
