Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday....

Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday....What?   Yes.  After ring the registers and signing your name on every receipt try something different.  Today is the second annual Giving Tuesday movement.

According to the official Giving Tuesday website:

“GivingTuesday is a movement to create a national day of giving back. In the same way retail stores take part in Black Friday, we want the giving community to come together for GivingTuesday."

Last year over 50 million people registered as participants in the event. Now it is your turn to join the movement.  Here are a few ideas:
  • Collect your "treat" money and donate it.
  • Clean out your closets and donate items to a worthy charity.
  • Grab a shift at the local food pantry.
  • Offer to clean out the gutters of an elderly neighbor.
  • Give a big bear hug to someone you love.

Since you did not have enough time to plan for the event, why not make it an event all week?  Better yet, mark you calendar for next year while doing good works this week.

Sharon, The Mayor

PS On a side note, why do they still call it Cyber Monday?  Most people I know have internet at their fingertips.  No longer do they need to wait until the Monday after Thanksgiving to sit down at their desk for internet access.
