Neighbor's Front Yard

Last month I went to visit my cousin in Niles which is a suburb of Chicago. Her neighborhood consists of homeowners that take great pride in their lawns. Countless dollars have been spent at the home improvement store on the latest technology and gadgets that promised a golf course inspired lawn. The neighborhood sport compares shades of grass and cutting patterns. Neighbor routinely complain about weed invaders, grubs and the last branch pickup over backyard fences.

This all American homeownership image made me wonder what the lawns look like after 50 plus inches of snow and bitter cold winds.

Definitely not here, where the driveway
never saw a shovel this winter.

This car is stuck until spring.

My frontyard still has the Christmas tree waiting to be recycled.

We feel a bit like the Beverly Hillbillies in Crazyvillle.

In the end, this is what my cousin's neighborhood looks like below. Most driveways and sidewalks are cleared down to the pavement. Made safe for all dog walkers to go for a stroll.

What is that red bag for? To keep the town clean until spring. Do not let your dog poop interrupt the perfect lawns. A bag is provided for your convenience.  No, the town does not provide the bags, the homeowner's association does for their members.  Nah, just sounded good.

What does your lawn look like this winter? Can your lawn maintenance skill make it in Niles, IL?
