Spring Has Finally Sprung.
Did you hear the calendar and stars say it is springtime? Do not believe me, check out the neighborhood street.
Yes, those are potholes. When our car's alignment is out of whack the neighborhood streets turn into a fun game of pothole wammo. Hit the pothole, get a jolt. Makes the kids laugh and parents cringe all at once. Just be warned, the senior citizen drapery patrol thinks the family car is steered by a drunk driver.
This week is our annual spring staycation. We always stay close to home for several reasons. First, we live in a town that celebrates spring flooding like Cajuns at a hurricane warning party. Nothing like the primal fear your basement will turn into an indoor pool or waking up to find an above ground pool in the backyard. Who needs a permit for a pool? Just hang out in Crazyville every spring. A pool is guaranteed to show up, the question is where. The second reason we are staying close to home is my husband has been traveling for two weeks. The kids and I truly miss his face and humor. Plus, staying at home was one way to ensure he pulls his chore weight around Crazyville.
The 2014 Spring Staycation Agenda opens with a trip to the Barrington Library. A good friend and loyal reader of this blog recommends a playdate here. Julie says the library is similar to a children's museum tucked into the local book haven. The kids love climbing up and down the indoor slide, life size Tinker Toys and adult size Bright Light. A morning at the library is a true delight. The rest of the week's agenda include two other playdates and lunch with my parents. Since Thursday and Friday's forecast calls for heavy rains the agenda includes at least one puddle walk. When there is a break in the rain, we scramble to put on our boots and rush outside to hop from one puddle to the next while circling around the block. Bath time and laundry quickly follows.
Saturday is the monthly "Home Depot Parent Challenge," where my husband takes the girls to the DIY mecca for some quality craft time. This is a free event every month open to all parents and kids. Just be forewarned the project have a very short lifecycle.
