First Movie - yikes! No Parents Around
This week's spin cycle writing prompt asked what our first movie was. I fondly remember watching E.T with my Grandma R and my sister Michelle. There was no popcorn, candy or pop. Going to the movie house was a special treat.
Growing up my sisters and I knew our family was considered small compared to our larger family. My mom's sister had nine children, while my uncle had seven - yes, we fondly include one step-son. When we did visit Grandma R it was a fight for her attention because of the "kid" crowd. Having alone time with her was a true treat.
At our first movie, we had her all to ourselves and no parents around. As the movie started I remembered asking her why the lights were being shut off. We did not turn off the lights at home to watch tv. Why now? Grandma just chuckled and said it made it easier to see the movie. As the screen came to life, I leaned over and asked if I could turn the sound down. She patted my knee and said there was no volume control and it was time to pay attention to the movie.
Michelle and I did not understand the concept of a space alien and why the government men were considered bad in the movie. They were suppose to be the good guys. What we did enjoy was watching a movie, in air conditioning on a hot day and having Grandma R all to ourselves.
What was your first movie? Have you watched it recently?
