The Spring Report
I was excited last week to see signs of Spring. After another long winter, seeing sights of new life was pure joy for the soul.
In Chicagoland the season usually opened with a final layer of snow. This was Mother Nature's way to reminded us March always came in like a lion but leaves like a lamb. The only grace about spring snow was it melted within a few hours.
Luckily this year, the spring snow never showed. This was a blessing for the the tulips and daffodils that worked hard to poke though the frozen ground. Around town signs of spring were found at the home improvement stores. Their outdoor garden centers were opened with hardy shrubs and young trees ready for sale. The landscapers worked on early spring clean up of our neighbor's yards. While the public works crew cleaned out the sewers and repaired the dreaded pot holes. (Our street will finally be repaved later this spring.)
The warmer weather brought pleas, from the kids, to ditch their winter coats. The temperature hovered around 40 degrees so the winter coats stuck around. Hopefully, next month the temperature will rise to 50 degrees and the spring coats will be dusted off. Until then, no hats, scarves or gloves just warm jackets.
Revin' Roger and Amazing Ann on a late spring walk at my in-laws farm last year. My in-laws have the most amazing views.
This week when we talked about the warmer weather the kids asked for picnics, trips to the park and bike rides.
All of these wonderful outside activities will happen. Until then we enjoyed no snow and walks around the neighborhood. Spring is here to stay!
