Homer Simpson's National Holiday

The first National Donut Day was started in 1938 by The Salvation Army as a fundraiser to feed hungry Americans during the Great Depression. The concept celebrate the work "donut lassies" did during World War I to feed American soldiers. Today, the holiday celebrates not only the donut lassies but also honors the memory of our soldiers.
Around 2009 local and national donut chains joined in the celebration. This morning, Wild Regan, Revin Roger and I ventured over to a new independent coffee house located in a train station to show our support. Revin was excited to see the trains. Wild Regan wanted to check out the sweets.
When your purchased a cup of coffee, also known as Survival Of Mommyhood Cup, you received a free donut.
Normally, I purchase one cup of Survival and two small treats for the kids. Today we got three donuts because I got to eat one!
The staff at Local Coffee & Tea said early this morning members of The Salvation Army were at the train station handing out mini Entenmanns' donuts. What a great way to start a morning commute into the city.
No fundraiser would be complete without making a financial and emotional donation. After savoring a free donut, visit The Salvation Army to make a donation to feed fellow hungry Americans. Also, for every "like" to Entemann's Facebook Page they will make a $1.00 donation to support The Salvation Army. The first three years this campaign has raised $100,000! Not bad for free donuts and feeding hungry bellies.
What are your plans to celebrate the holiday? Did you eat a donuts this morning? What kind?
Sharon, The Mayor
