January in Crazyville

Like most Chicagoans, I complained about the weather no matter the season. Last January we experienced extreme snow accumulations and temperatures. Wonder what our yards looked like? Visit here.

For eight weeks we lived in the never ending groundhog days of winter. Started with several inches of snow, followed by extreme temperature lows and finished up with high winds. The snow forced local governments to knock down snow mounds so garbage trucks and school buses could pass narrow corners. Business and schools closed due to extreme morning temperatures. Delivery trucks warned customers packages would be delayed until the extreme weather passed. Several mornings newscasters screamed to cover up any exposed skin for fear of immediate frost bite. Our Christmas tree was finally picked up in late February because it was frozen into the ground. The big hit on Facebook was to throw a cup of water outside and record the action of liquid instantly turned into ice.

January 2015 acted like a typical winter. A couple of inches fell that justified last year's snow blower purchase.

A few days later the temperature climbed and the white stuff started to melt.

A typical January is perfect weather for me. Enough snow to remind us we are in winter yet not enough accumulation to worry about flooding come spring.

New York, Boston and New England we sympathize with you this winter. We feel your pain on the never ending snow machine.
